This training is designed to provide the registered nurse with the skills needed to determine the urgency of a health problem, to determine whether medical intervention is needed, and how soon treatment should begin. Topics that will be discussed include the scope of practice and the nurse's role in telephone triage, legal considerations, how to assess individuals by phone, documentation requirements and methods to improve quality of care.


Course Objectives

  • Describe nursing scope of practice and identify ways to appropriately utilize staff in providing care over the phone.
  • Describe the knowledge of performing a systematic, comprehensive assessment by telephone.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge of documentation that incorporates all aspects of the telephone assessment.
