OPWDD operates 6 DDSOOs throughout New York state, employing approximately 23,000 staff who provide services to more than 126,000 people with developmental disabilities and their families across the state. Each DDSOO recruits and hires at their respective facility, in accordance with state and federal laws and pursuant to New York state Civil Service guidelines.
Most state positions within OPWDD and its DDSOOs are filled through competitive civil service examination.
